DESIGN SOFTWARE AND TUTORIALS
Quartus is electronic design automation (EDA) software from Intel
Corporation. It is used to design and simulate digital logic circuits
using schematics and hardware description languages.
An extensive toolset is
provided to simulate the behavior of the circuit, tweak circuit performance,
and to compile the design to a configuration file for placement in one of the
Intel complex programmable logic devices (CPLDs) or field-programmable gate
arrays (FPGAs). A CPLD or FPGA takes the place of many interconnected
components as a single-chip solution to a design problem.
Students in CE1901 will use Quartus extensively.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FROM MSOE SOFTWARE CENTER
- Note that you must be on MSOE wired
networking, wireless networking, or connected to MSOE through a
VPN connection.
- Click the search tool (magnifying glass) in
Windows 10.
- Type the words "Software
Center"
in the search box.
- Select the "Software Center
Desktop App".
- Select the "Quartus Prime
18.1" item in the applications list.
- Note that software installers often start behind the Software Center window or
disappear behind it during installations. Consider shrinking the Software
Center window using the minimize button in the top-right corner of the window
after the installation is started.
- Choose the "Install" option.
- Wait until the download completes. The installer should start automatically. Again, it may
start behind the Software Center window.
- Accept the license agreement and use all
pre-selected default selections during installation.
- Wait until the Quartus Prime installation
finishes at a dialog box.
- Read the final dialog box.
Note that it will have a series of pre-checked
boxes including:
- "Launch USB Blaster II driver installation" - leave checked
- "Create shortcuts on desktop" - your choice to leave or
uncheck
- "Launch Quartus Prime Lite Edition" - uncheck
- Click the finish button.
- Note that the "USB Blaster II Driver
Installation" installer will start. Again, it may start behind any open windows. Accept all
defaults and click-through to finish the
install.
- Note that the "Quartus Prime TalkBack"
dialog box will appear. Check "Enable sending
TalkBack data to Altera" and click "OK" to
finish.
Quartus Prime is now installed on your computer
