c) Precast blocks: Types & uses.
2. Timber: Varieties, properties, uses, defects, seasoning merits & demerits, plywood - types & uses.
3. Soil: I.S. classification of soils, soil structure - single grained, flocculated and dispersed structures.
4. a) Cement: Ingredients, types, properties and uses. Physical tests on cement as per I.S.
b) Lime: Types, properties & uses.
c) Mortar: Lime, cement and surkhi mortar - Properties and uses, compressive strength of cement mortar.
4. Floor tiles: Mosaic tiles, natural and artificial stone slabs - properties and application.
6. Modern building materials: Plastic, rubber, glass, ferrocement, gypsum, bitumen and tar.
7. Metals: Ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
8. a) Concrete: Definition, Ingredients - properties, water cement ratio.
b) Tests on aggregates and fresh concrete as per I.S.
c) Fresh concrete: Workability, mix proportion - batching, mixing, transportation, placing, compacting, various methods of curing.
d) Hardened concrete: Compressive strength, bond strength, high strength concrete - definition and uses, Non-destructive tests.
9. Admixtures in concrete: Brief description and their effects on concrete.
