Strength of organic acids and bases. Mono basic and dibasic acids effect of structure 'H' bond  steric effect-primary Secondary and tertiary ammines. Grignard reagent preparation and Synthetic applications. Active methylene group compounds: Acetoacetic ester.  Malonic ester.  Diazomethane.  Their Synthetic applications.

 

Carbohydrates:  Classification-Mono saccharides Ring Structure of glucose.  Optical activity-polarimeter-Determination of Specific rotation.  Descending-Ascending of sugars, conversion of Aldose in to Ketose vise/versa.  Disaccharides: Sucrose Manufacture from sugar cane, properties and structure.  Poly saccharides: Starch cellulose.                           

 

Amino acids: Classification essential -amino acids Zwitter-ion Isoelectric point. General methods of preparation and properties. Peptides poly peptides- methods of preparation.  Proteins- classification general properties.  Colour tests.  Enzymes-Co-enzymes Specificity of enzymatic actions.  Enzymatic reactions applications of enzymes.

 

Aromatics:  Structures of benzene theories of aromaticity, Electrophilic substitution reactions of benzene.  Effect of substituents in electrophilic substitution. Heterocycli1c Compounds: Five membered heterocyclics:  Furan Thiophene.  Pyrrole preparation properties.  Six membered heterocyclics Pyridine preparation  properties.  Condesed ring heterocyclics quinoline and Indole.  Preparation properties.

 

Dyes:  Colour and constitution-Chromophores, auxochromes batho chromic and hypsochromic effects.  Valence bond and molecular orbital approach to colour.  UV & visible spectra of dyes. Classification of dyes according to applications and structures Azo dyes-methyl orange, methyl red, congored. Triphenyl methane dyes:  Malachite green, Rosaniline, crystal violet Indigotin, Anthraquinone dyes.  Fluoroscent brightening agents.
