Climate and climatic parameters, human thermal comfort, solar studies: sunpath diagram and its uses, ventilation: Macro and micro climatic wind, ventilation and airflow, principles of natural ventilation, air changes, wind flow around buildings and airflow patterns within buildings.  Passive strategies in environmental design.

 

Basic concepts, loads and zoning, air conditioning systems and air distribution systems, Air conditioning equipments, registress diffusers and grilles, vapour absorption system, energy efficiency in air-conditioning systems.  Thermal insulation in buildings.

 

Introduction to water supply, treatment, storage and distribution - sources of water - water supply system in different types of buildings - calculation of water consumption - overhead water storage tanks, pump and storage tanks, pipes their materials, different fittings and jointing - Water supply for Multi-storied buildings - Provision for Fire fighting - Design and layout of water supply systems for different types of occupancies.

 

Introduction to sanitation and sanitation system and its importance and basic approach. Basic principles of sanitation and disposal of waste from buildings. Consideration of location of sanitary units in a house or building at the planning stage. House drainage systems, Multi-storied building, Drainage system with single stack and multi-stack system. Conservancy and water carriage systems.

 

Different systems of sewage treatment and disposal - Planning and layout of sanitary fittings - Design for drainage layout, their testing and maintenance.

 

Analysis and design of vertical transportation systems : Constructional and decorative features of lift lobbies, escalator lobbies, lift cars and escalators installation of lifts and escalators.

 

Electrical : Elements of building wiring systems, safety and precautions, electrical equipments used in buildings, Architectural drawings of electrification.

           

Fire safety : Different methods of fire fighting in buildings. Code requirements for building services.
