Out of Memory Error with MAX+plus II
If MAX+plus II fails to run on a particular machine and gives an error message like "Out of Memory," the machine's permanent swap file may be damaged or missing. To restore the permanent swap file:
- Exit Windows.
- Reboot the computer by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del or the Reset button.
- When the boot from hard drive prompt appears, press H to boot from the hard drive. DOS should start and HIMEM and the Logictech mouse drivers should display some messages. If instead you are prompted for the time and date, the computer's AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files are missing or damaged. In this case you should fill out one of the pink problem reports and move to another computer.
- Enter win to start Windows. Ignore the NetWare warning.
- Open the Main program group and double click on the Control Panel icon. This should open the Control Panel.
- Double click on the 386 Enhanced icon. The 386 Enhanced mode dialog should be displayed.
- Click on the Virtual Memory... button.
- Click on the Change>> button and set up a 40,000 KB permanent swap file. Click on Okay and answer yes to the "Are you sure" dialog.
- Select Restart Windows.
- Close Control Panel.
- Exit Windows.
- Reboot the computer again.
- Log in normally and run MAX+plus II.
Note, you should only perform the above procedure if MAX+plus II fails to run do to inadequate memory.
License Errors with MAX+plus II
The full version of MAX+plus II can only be run on computers with hardware keys. Currently the computers in rooms S-343 and S-366 are the only ones on campus with these keys. However, sometimes MAX+plus II gets confused and gives license errors even on these machines. When this happens, first try ignor the error and proceeding with your work. If the error continues to occur and prevents you from compiling your design, try the following:
- Use AppMan to uninstall MAX+plus II.
- Delete the MAXPLUSI.GRP and MAXPLUS2.INI files in your f:\windows directory.
- Use AppMan to reinstall MAX+plus II.
