Exclusive-OR Functions (not covered in lecture)

Know the symbol for the logical operation known as Exclusive-OR (XOR).

Be able to perform the XOR operation on expressions having two or more independent variables.

Be able to explain what is meant by the term odd function.

Be able to use the XOR function to generate odd and even parity bits.

Medium-scale Integration Devices

Be able to design an N bit binary adder using full-adders and XOR gates.

Be able to explain the purpose of Look-ahead Carry generation.

Be able to explain the operation of a BCD adder.

Be able to explain the operation of a magnitude comparator.

Be able to explain the function and operation of encoders and decoders.

Be able to explain the function and operation of multiplexers and demultiplexers.

Be able to implement arbitrary Boolean functions using multiplexers.

Be able to explain the function and operation of ROM.

Understand the basic objectives and rules of ANSI/IEEE Standard 91-1984.

Know how negative-logic polarity is represented in the 91-1984 standard.
