ASM Charts

Know the three basic elements types used in ASM charts.

Be able to identify ASM blocks in ASM charts.

Know the timing relationship among the components of a ASM block.

Be able to explain how ASM charts and state diagrams are related.

Know the broad definition of registers used in relation to ASM charts.

Be able to give 3 examples of register operations.

Be able to determine when it is best to design a system using an ASM chart verses a state table or diagram.

Be able to implement designs given in ASM form.

Designing Control Logic

Be able to implement control logic using JK flip-flops and discrete gates.

Be able to implement control logic using D flip-flops and discrete gates.

Be able to implement control logic using D flip-flop's and decoders.

Be able to implement control logic using one D flip-flop per state.

Be able to implement control logic using D flip-flops, multiplexers and decoders.

Be able to implement control logic using D flip-flops and ROM's.

Be able to implement control logic using PLD's (using MAX+plus II or PLD Shell Plus).
