MSOE Library Committee Charter
Approved by the Faculty Senate on October 29, 1996
Introduction
The Library Committee at MSOE serves several functions.
- It makes recommendations to the Director of the Library as to procedures that will enhance
use of the facilities by faculty and students and to promote the use of the library as a resource
tool.
- It makes recommendations to the Director of the Library in regard to
the library collection.
- It makes recommendations to the Director of the Library in regard to
utilization of the present
facilities, resource media and equipment and about upgrading those facilities, resource media
and equipment.
- It advises the Executive Educational Council in adopting library
policies that cross
departmental boundaries to provide increased efficiency in learning.
This committee will normally meet once a quarter.
Membership and Responsibilities
Chair
The Chair is to be elected (appointed) by the Faculty Senate and will be responsible for arranging
committee meetings and for communicating all appropriate committee information, conclusions,
and decisions to the Faculty Senate.
General Membership
One representative will be selected from each academic department (with the exception of the
Chair's department) through an election process. These representative do not have to be faculty
senators, but should be actively involved and interested in fulfilling the Library Committee
functions as stated above. One student representative will be selected by the SGA.
Ex-Officio
The Director of the Library, Assistant Director and other library staff as appropriate, will be invited
to all meetings and minutes shall be sent to the Director of the Library, Vice-president for
Academics and to the Academic Department Chairs. These notices and minutes will be for
informational purposes only and no voting rights will be granted to the Academic Department
Chairs.
