Library Committee Meeting Minutes 3/19/97 (Approved)
Meeting called to order about 2:05
Members present: Mayer, Schilleman, Tritt and Wikoff
Announcements
- Introductions
- Discussion of our Purpose. The purpose of this committee is to provide feedback to the library on issues of interest to the MSOE faculty. The committee was formed by the Faculty Senate at the request of the library director. It is, to some extent, a continuation of a previous informal, ad hoc committee.
- The general consensus was that the faculty are pretty happy with current library operations.
Old Business
- None - this was our first meeting.
New Business
- The question was raised, should this committee be concerned with AV issues, since AV equipment distribution is managed by the library and if so should we suggest overhead projectors be stationed in every classroom? The general opinion was that the current system works reasonably well, but that there are sometimes problems with unreserved equipment being used and therefore unavailable for faculty member with reservations.
- The question was raised, should departments (faculty members) take the responsibility to review the current library collection and make suggestions regarding additions?
- The question was raised, should departments (faculty members) be given the opportunity to designate a limited number of "Classic" books in each discipline that would never be discarded even if they are never borrowed?
- The question was raised, are the number of periodical subscriptions growing and if not should they be?
- The question was raised, should the library look into the costs of online books?
- The question was raised, does the library need more computers for access to online resources?
Action Items
- Dr. Tritt will discuss the questions raised with the library director.
- Dr. Tritt will arrange the next meeting and announce the time and location via e-mail and voice mail.
Meeting adjourned about 2:45.
