Connecting to the network on student laptops at Direct Supply

These directions are for Windows 10 laptops, but might provide hints for other users.

  1. Open the Action Center, click on Network, select MSOE-DirectSupply, and Connect
  2. After the network connects, open your browser and visit a major site such as Stack Overflow or Microsoft.com. Accessing the site that you use to search the internet (Google, DuckDuckGo) might not work because your laptop will likely have that page cached.
  3. The DirectSupply servers will prompt you for a username and password. These are listed on the paper outside the lab (Doc's Garage)

If your computer connects to the wireless network but attempts to access a major site results in messages such as "the internet is not available", try the following:

  1. Open a command prompt (click on the Windows icon and type "command").
  2. Enter the command
            ipconfig

  3. Locate the entry "Default Gateway".
  4. Copy and paste the address into the address bar of your browser and press the Enter key.
This will force the gateway to respond to you, and it will prompt you for the username and password as usual.

See the VPN instructions to make your laptop appear to be on the campus network after logging in.
