DATASHEETS

A datasheet is a reference document for an integrated circuit chip (IC). The datasheet is produced by the manufacturer to assist the engineer in understanding the functionality, pin description, and electrical characteristics of the chip. A datasheet typically summarizes the functionality, the pin names and locations on the first page. It then expands its description of behavior, internal circuits, and electrical specifications on the remaining pages. The industry identifies every integrated circuit chip with a unique part number. Engineering students slowly memorize the part numbers as they complete product designs in their undergraduate classes. Datasheets for a number of historical microprocessors are provided as reference for CE1921 students interested in architectures that differ from the ARM architecture studied in class. Datasheets for some standard functional logic components used in classroom discussion and homework assignments are also provided.
